I don't know why Avid doesn't state this clearly on a website (maybe they do but I've missed it) but that's the policy. After 30 days from expiration, you need a reinstatement license.
If you are within 30 days after expiration, you can still renew without reinstatement (renewal date goes back to your expiration date though.) When you apply (or buy) a renewal, you will see that happen.

If you have the upgrade plan, you have support - this may just be a change in terminology on their part. They make look on it kindly and let you renew without penalty.Upgrade and support plans are tied together. If its just in the last week or so and you did not get a reminder to renew the Annual Upgrade Plan, shoot Avid an e-mail. I now have PT 12.8.3 (latest version) in my account. May be i misunderstand the terminology but its the Upgrade plan that provides me with new updated PT version. And then the other issue just encountered after upgrading to 12.8.2 was that my Elysia Alpha Compressor plugin "Mix version" started doing the same thing not sure why ? yet but I removed it from the track re did output again put it back on the track and so far OK but in one instance it was bad (doubled output routing) of an external Hardware comp. Now I did have a couple issues on a couple of specific sessions, where the meters on a specific audio track along with my 2 bus and master fader track would max out (with a buzzing sound but no real jump in db output ) and then would not output any sound until I closed and relaunched the session. Now as for "anyone run this software " If you mean 12.8.3 no not yet, I am running 12.8.2 with no issues also I never had any noise blasts or GUI lag issues so go figure ? # 3 A subscription only (rental) licence, does expire after a the specific term length and can be renewed or not, but will no longer work if not renewed

#2 An Update and Support Plan " licence along with a "perpetual license" means that only the Update and Support Plan will expire on an annual basis, and is renewable or not, the underlying "Perpetual licence" stays usable at the last update version (whether or not you renew your Update and Support plan) #1 A perpetual licence does not expire, which is why it is called "Perpetual" and it stays and is usable at whatever version it was last updated to. I'll think about an upgrade.Your post is a little unclear perhaps just confusion of terminology.

I love Pro Tools and I've used it and touted it for 20 years, but I'm beginning to understand the point of view of the studios still running 10 and 11. So, has anyone run this software? Did Avid finally optimize all of that code from the ground-up as they said they did when they were selling those 11-to-12 upgrades? Is that stationary playback head (your welcome) finally allowing smooth scrolling experience? Any noise-blasts yet?
I can only rent the software on an annual basis. Perhaps they've realized this as purchasing/upgrading a new perpetual license is no longer possible in my account. I would certainly let this go if Avid had simply version-named this software 13.0.0. What is is a bit silly –if not intellectually dishonest– is to sell a Perpetual License at a premium when it's really only a year's worth of updates. I did let my perpetual license expire a couple weeks ago because 12.8.0, 12.8.1, and 12.8.2 have been not so great as 12.7.1.
